The construction and working principle of candle filters


The candle filter is an advanced filtration system with a cartridge as the skeleton, solid particles or filter aid as the filter medium and a pump to clarify the liquid under pressure, which is carefully designed and reliable.

Working principle

The filter cloth support tube consists of a non-porous central tube and six porous tubes with a plum-shaped cross-section, the central tube is able to drain the liquid stored inside, reducing material waste.

Filter Status

The liquid is filtered through the filter cloth and flows from the porous tube to the central tube and then to the collection tube. The filter cloth is pressed against the outer surface of the support tube. The concave and convex support tube increases the filtration area and helps to hold the filter cake in place, preventing it from falling off and thus stabilising the filtration effect.

Backwash status

The back-blowing gas is introduced and flows from the non-porous central tube to the porous tube, the filter cloth bulges and becomes round, effectively vibrating and stripping the filter cake, while the particles in the filter cloth fibres can be removed, improving the back-blowing efficiency and quickly restoring the filter cloth filtration capacity.

Direct filtration

The installation of high-performance precision filter elements enables direct fine filtration with excellent cake stripping performance up to 0.2 μm.

Pre-coated filtration

The surface of the filter element is pre-coated with diatomaceous earth, perlite and other filtering aids to form a filter cake layer, which is used as a filtering medium for filtration to achieve a clarification level of filtration.

Filter cake recovery

The large filter area and high cake stripping performance enables the recovery of large quantities of high value cake from high solids content liquids at one time and, with the addition of a drying design, drier cakes with a moisture content of <20% can be obtained.

Slurry Concentration

Without discharging particles, the filter element is periodically regenerated by backwashing and continues to filter, continuously increasing the concentration of granular material in the filter to a certain concentration and discharging the slurry for reuse.

Filter cake washing

The intercepted filter cake is washed several times directly in the filter, adding a drying design to achieve the integration of filtration, washing, drying and discharge operations, reducing investment, shortening the process and saving energy.
