Working principle of reverse osmosis membrane

2022-03-07

Working principle of reverse osmosis membrane:

Reverse osmosis technology is a membrane separation and filtration technology driven by pressure difference. Its pore size is as small as nanometer (1nm = 10-9m). Under pressure, H2O molecules can pass through RO membrane, while inorganic salts, heavy metal ions, organics, colloids, bacteria, viruses and other impurities in source water cannot pass through RO membrane, so that permeable pure water can be strictly distinguished from impermeable concentrated water.

The reverse osmosis device is mainly composed of high-pressure pump, reverse osmosis membrane and control part. The high-pressure pump pressurizes the source water. Except that water molecules can pass through the RO membrane, almost all other substances in the water (minerals, organics, microorganisms, etc.) are rejected from the membrane and cannot pass through the RO membrane and are washed away by high-pressure concentrated water.

Characteristics of reverse osmosis technology:

1. The desalination rate of reverse osmosis is high. The desalination rate of single membrane can reach 99%. The desalination rate of single-stage reverse osmosis system can generally be stable at more than 90%, and that of double-stage reverse osmosis system can generally be stable at more than 98%.

2. Because reverse osmosis can effectively remove microorganisms such as bacteria, organic matter and inorganic matter such as metal elements, the effluent quality is better than other methods.

3. The operation cost and labor cost of reverse osmosis pure water are low, reducing environmental pollution.

4. It slows down the change of produced water quality caused by the fluctuation of source water quality, which is conducive to the stability of water quality in production, which plays a positive role in the stability of pure aquatic product quality.

5. It can greatly reduce the burden of follow-up treatment equipment, so as to prolong the service life of follow-up treatment equipment
